Vision for climate compatible and sustainable cruises in 2040

Requirements for the transition of an industry

In order to transform the cruise industry into a sustainable future business, the decisive factor is the switch to emission-free drive technologies by the year 2040 at the latest. The innovative ability of the providers can set the tone and pace of the entire shipping industry.

NABU demands

NABU calls on companies in the cruise industry to make a clear commitment to the Paris climate goals and to operate completely climate-neutral in 2040. For this it is necessary to develop a clear climate strategy with milestones, reduction targets and suitable measures up to 2040 for every company in absolute numbers and not in per person / night values and to start implementing it.

The measures specified therein must also include the existing fleet and include, for example, retrofitting with efficiency technologies for the entire fleet or, if necessary, the scrapping of old, inefficient ships. At the same time, air pollutant emissions with their negative effects on people and nature must be reduced. Most technologies reduce both greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions. The goal is therefore emission-free shipping.
