Vision for climate compatible and sustainable cruises in 2050
Requirements for the transition of an industry
NABU calls on companies in the cruise industry to make a clear commitment to the Paris climate goals. As a result, all cruise lines will have to operate completely climate-neutral in 2050. For this it is necessary to develop a clear climate strategy with milestones, reduction targets and suitable measures up to 2050 for every company in absolute numbers and not in per person / night values and to start implementing it.
The measures specified therein must also include the existing fleet and include, for example, retrofitting with efficiency technologies for the entire fleet or, if necessary, the scrapping of old, inefficient ships. At the same time, air pollutant emissions with their negative effects on people and nature must be reduced. Most technologies reduce both greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions. The goal is therefore emission-free shipping.
