Our planet is big, colourful and, above all: diverse. It is estimated that there are several million species of plants, animals, fungi, algae and single-celled organisms here on Earth. Protecting this treasure trove of biodiversity is imperative. It is the foundation of life, just as is a healthy climate.

Therefore, NABU’s body of work is also diverse, and spans across various nature conservation and environmental topics. These focus areas are interdependent. For example, a rich biodiversity depends on healthy ecosystems, and vice versa.

This page aims to give you an overview of the most urgent contemporary nature conservation and environmental matters that NABU is involved with around the globe, such as: protecting and restoring ecosystems, preserving species and biodiversity, building sustainable and climate-friendly economic and work structures, strengthening civil society to support nature conservation and taking action on climate protection as well as mitigating climate change.

Clicking on a topic below will take you to the related background pages including projects and initiatives. Together with our partners, we are running these projects in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Caucasus region.
