Participants within the climate and forest project
Since 2008, the International Climate Initiative (ICI) of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) has been financing climate projects in developing and newly industrialised countries, as well as countries in transition. The ICI receives funding from emissions trading to support partner countries in the area of climate protection. This new form of climate cooperation complements the existing development cooperation work of the German Government.
The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (German “Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V.”) is the oldest and biggest environmental conservation organisation in Germany. It brings together around 500,000 members and sponsors who support us in our work for threatened habitats, flora and fauna, climate protection and energy policies. NABU is a registered international NGO in Ethiopia and implements the Climate and Forest Project in Kafa.
SNNPR – Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State

Kafa Zone Administration
The local government of Kafa is situated in Bonga. Kafa Zone Administration fully supports NABU and the implementation of the project in many different ways:
The Kafa Zone Department for Water, Mines and Energy realizes the project component energy-saving Stoves. In charge of the implementation of the Ranger Program, Reforestation, Agroforestry and Community Plantations is the Kafa Zone Department of Agricultural Development. In the area of Ecotourism, especially in the construction of the Kafa Kingdom Open Air Museum NABU works together with the Kafa Zone Culture, Tourism & Government Communication Department.
