Behavioural change for sustainability can only be attained in permanent dialogue with politics, business, citizens and NGOs. Entrepreneurs are therefore vital partners for corporate responsibility, shaping economies sustainable and environmentally-friendly.
NABU offers a number of cooperation schemes for business partners ranging from advisory for no-harming practices and low carbon foot print in production and sales to critical public dialogue processes involving politics to long-term partnerships. NABU's Business Initiative unites medium-sized responsible business partners for exchange, capacity development and cooperation in support of NABU’s international work.
Within this framework we also started product-based partnership co-financing NABU’s projects around the globe. In Ethiopia, for instance, NABU supports green value chains in UNESCO biosphere reserves like Kafa Biosphere Reserve, Sheka Forest Biosphere Reserve and Yayu Coffee Forest Biosphere Reserve.
For long-term partnership arrangements and a reliable demand for farmers and cooperatives, we invite buyers from the coffee, tea and spice sectors. Jointly with our business partners we develop products like organic certified coffee and tea or beverages from coffee leaves for the international market.
In Poland, at the Słowiński National Park, we are working towards long-term mire restoration with co-funding from business partners through NABU’s International Mire Conservation Fund. In Indonesia, we were able to electrify households in Gorontalo province with photovoltaic with support from the private sector.

Potential cooperation partners vary in size, business model and motivation. Therefore, we customize every cooperation and offer a modular setup in a 2-step approach:
Step 1—Dialogue, exchange and consulting
On level 1, cooperating with companies serves the purpose of an informal exchange. There's two typical use cases for this—
➣ Consulting of companies on the matter of sustainable management of their business (strategic guidance, internal processes...)
➣ Consulting of companies on the matter of remodeling their company property or real estate in an eco-friendly manner
Step 2—Strategic cooperation
Companies credibly demonstrating sufficient overlap with our goals qualify for long-term strategic partnerships. These partnerships include a joint and modular effort to drive the ecological transformation of the partner company. The partner can be anything from a sustainability pioneer (e.g. Alnatura) to an established strong player in their market that wants to leverage incremental change for mass consumer audiences (e.g. REWE).
