Interim Workshop at the Capital Hotel in Addis Ababa
25th November 2015 - Almost 100 participants attended the Interim Workshop, including project partners from Ethiopian government offices, research institutions, development organisations, NABU subcontractors as well as Kafa Biosphere Reserve rangers and community representatives.
In her opening speech, Mrs. Almaz Beyero, Bureau Head of Culture and Tourism (BoCT) from Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR), underlined the importance of the Kafa Biosphere Reserve to the livelihoods of local people. The NABU representatives Mrs. Svane Bender-Kaphengst, Head of Africa Programme, and Mr. Mesfin Tekle, local Project Coordinator for Kafa, reported on the project achievements up to now. Also several NABU subcontractors presented their work so far. Mr. Mengistu Wondafrash, Executive Director of the local BirdLife partner Ethiopian Wildlife and Natural History Society (EWNHS), spoke about the importance of ecotourism to generate income for communities. Finally, Mr. Degefu Gebre, Senior Advisor to the Kafa Zone Administration Office, concluded the Workshop by emphasising the commitment to preserve the natural and cultural treasures of the beautiful Kafa Biosphere Reserve.
